Comerica Bank and Kalamazoo Growlers Join Forces to Combat Food Insecurity

Comerica Bank launches its fourth annual Summer Food Drive in partnership with the Kalamazoo Growlers, aiming to support the South Michigan Food Bank (SMFB) in addressing food insecurity in the region. Running from June 20 to July 24, this initiative encourages community members in Kalamazoo, Portage, and Battle Creek to donate nonperishable food items at designated Comerica banking centers. This collaborative effort not only provides essential support to the SMFB but also fosters community engagement through incentivized participation. The drive culminates on July 25, during a home game where attendees can make their final contributions.

In a bid to boost participation, Comerica Bank offers several incentives for donors. For every five food items donated, participants receive a voucher for a Growlers ticket, while those contributing 20 or more items become eligible for exclusive Growlers-themed prizes. A new addition this year is a complimentary Growlers bucket hat for donors who bring six or more items to the July 25 game. Debra Hanes, Senior Vice President of Comerica Bank, highlights the initiative’s success over its three-year history, noting that the partnership has provided approximately 193,000 meals to community members in need since its inception in 2022. This sustained effort underscores the commitment of both organizations to alleviate hunger in their local area.

The impact of the Summer Food Drive extends beyond mere numbers; it reflects a broader mission of community welfare. Kevin Timmer, Kalamazoo Vice President of Partnerships, reinforces the slogan "Fun Makes A Difference," showcasing how the drive not only addresses immediate needs but also fosters a sense of community spirit. As residents of Kalamazoo, Portage, and Battle Creek participate in this vital initiative, Comerica Bank and the Kalamazoo Growlers demonstrate their dedication to ensuring that healthy meals reach those facing food insecurity.

In addition to the food drive, Comerica Bank continues to engage in various community initiatives aimed at enhancing local welfare. By partnering with organizations like the SMFB, the bank emphasizes its role in creating a supportive environment for residents. This commitment to corporate social responsibility reflects a growing trend among financial institutions to invest in community-focused programs that yield long-lasting benefits.

As the Summer Food Drive unfolds, community members are encouraged to contribute and make a difference. The collaboration between Comerica Bank and the Kalamazoo Growlers serves as a powerful reminder of the positive impact local businesses can have when they unite for a common cause.
