Climate Credits Enhance Financial Relief for PG&E Customers in 2025

In a significant development for Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) customers, California's Cap-and-Trade Program is poised to deliver substantial financial benefits in 2025. Beginning in October, eligible residential customers will automatically receive a Climate Credit of $58.23 on their electric bill, mirroring the credit issued in April. For those with natural gas accounts, an annual credit of $67.03 will also be applied, culminating in a total benefit of $183.49 for customers utilizing both electricity and gas services. Small business customers will see similar advantages, receiving a total of $116.46 in annual credits, reflecting the same electric credit structure as their residential counterparts.

The Climate Credit initiative stems from California's ongoing efforts to combat carbon emissions through its Cap-and-Trade Program, overseen by the California Air Resources Board. PG&E administers the distribution of these credits according to guidelines set by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). Since the program's launch in 2014, PG&E customers have collectively benefited from an impressive average of $1,000 in Climate Credits, translating to over $12.9 billion in statewide financial relief. This initiative underscores the state's commitment to environmental sustainability while providing much-needed support to energy consumers.

Vincent Davis, PG&E's Senior Vice President of Customer Experience, emphasizes that these credits play a vital role in alleviating energy costs for customers while supporting PG&E's sustainability goals. The company continues to enhance its customer support by offering various programs aimed at helping consumers manage their energy expenses effectively. These include personal energy coaching services and tools for easy rate comparisons. PG&E also provides resources such as the Savings Finder tool and an Energy Efficiency DIY Toolkit, empowering customers to adopt energy-efficient practices. Furthermore, income-eligible customers are encouraged to take advantage of programs like the PG&E Match My Payment Program, which offers additional financial assistance.

In summary, PG&E's commitment to supporting its customers through financial credits and energy management resources reflects the broader objectives of California's climate policies. With these measures, PG&E not only helps mitigate energy costs but also fosters a sustainable energy future for the state.
