BCE Advances Canada’s AI Infrastructure with New Data Center
BCE Inc., Canada’s largest communications provider, is set to enhance the country's artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities through its groundbreaking partnership with the Government of Saskatchewan. The companies unveil plans for a state-of-the-art 300 MW data center in the Rural Municipality of Sherwood, near Regina, which will emerge as the largest purpose-built AI data center in Canada once completed. This project represents BCE's most significant investment in Saskatchewan, signifying its commitment to bolster the province's emerging technology ecosystem and drive economic growth.
Construction of the facility is scheduled to begin in spring 2026, with phased operations expected to commence by mid-2027. The data center aims to create substantial economic value, estimated at up to $12 billion, through job creation and tax revenues. During the construction phase, it is anticipated that about 800 jobs will be generated in trades and engineering, in addition to 80 permanent roles once the center is operational. The project promises further community benefits, potentially adding around 750 additional jobs within the locality. Such initiatives exemplify BCE's strategic focus on strengthening local economies while expanding its technological footprint in Canada.
A critical element of this data center is its focus on sovereign AI compute, ensuring that Canadian government entities, researchers, and enterprises can utilize advanced AI technologies while adhering to data residency regulations. The facility will be interconnected with BCE's national fiber backbone via a partnership with SaskTel, which enhances its service offerings. Key tenants, including tech firms Cerebras and CoreWeave, will bolster the center with their innovative solutions, particularly in wafer-scale technology that will enhance AI capabilities for customers. By positioning Saskatchewan at the forefront of Canada's AI landscape, BCE not only aims to lead in enterprise AI solutions but also fosters long-term prospects for economic diversification and sustainable growth in the region.
In addition to its investment in the AI data center, BCE’s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Curtis Millen, will engage with industry leaders during a fireside chat at the Desjardins Montréal Conference on March 17, 2026. This event reflects BCE's ongoing commitment to transparency and stakeholder engagement, providing insights into the company’s future initiatives and performance. Interested parties can access the live webcast of the event on BCE's website.
