Ceva Inc. Elevates Connectivity and Intelligence with New UWB IP Solution
Ceva, Inc., a notable player in the silicon and software intellectual property sector, unveils its next-generation Ceva-Waves™ Ultra Wideband (UWB) IP. This latest offering stands out as the first compliant solution with the IEEE 802.15.4ab standard, a significant leap in the realm of UWB technology. The Ceva-Waves™ UWB IP is designed to provide extraordinary enhancements, boasting up to 30 times the range and quadrupling the data rates compared to earlier technologies while ensuring ultra-low power consumption. This innovation targets various applications, enhancing secure access, positioning, radar sensing, and data transfer capabilities across multiple sectors, including consumer electronics, automotive, and industrial systems.
The rise of Ultra-Wideband technology is becoming increasingly pronounced. According to projections from ABI Research, UWB shipments are expected to exceed 563 million units in 2025 and to surpass 1.4 billion annually by 2030. The adoption of the IEEE 802.15.4ab standard is anticipated to play a vital role in expanding the potential for longer-range communications and more reliable deployment options. Andrew Zignani, Senior Research Director at ABI Research, highlights the significant evolution of UWB from a technology initially used for secure digital keys and trackers to a versatile platform for precise positioning and high-performance communication solutions. The strategic positioning of Ceva’s new UWB IP positions the company as a key player in facilitating smarter connectivity and advanced applications in these expanding markets.
Ceva’s innovations also encompass advanced techniques in multi-millisecond ranging, enabling reliable and secure ranging capabilities that extend beyond traditional proximity interactions commonly associated with UWB applications. As industries look to integrate more sophisticated functionalities and responsiveness in their devices, Ceva's advancements in UWB technology solidify its role at the forefront of smart edge solutions. The company is not just innovating for the present but is paving the way for future applications that will significantly enhance connectivity and operational efficiency across diverse platforms.
In addition to its UWB IP advancements, Ceva recently receives recognition in the Artificial Intelligence category at the 2026 embedded world Exhibition & Conference in Nuremberg, Germany, for its Ceva-NeuPro-Nano neural processing unit (NPU) IP. This accolade highlights the NPU's capabilities in delivering energy-efficient AI acceleration for a vast range of edge devices. Yaron Galitzky, Executive Vice President of AI Division at Ceva, articulates the significance of this achievement in affirming the company's vision of scalable, energy-efficient edge AI.
The NeuPro-Nano architecture is crafted specifically for power-constrained devices, capable of supporting modern neural networks across applications such as computer vision and sensor fusion. This recognition underscores Ceva's commitment to advancing edge AI technology, facilitating innovative smart devices that can operate intelligently with minimal resource consumption. As Ceva continues to push the boundaries of connectivity and intelligence, it strengthens its position as a leader in both UWB solutions and edge AI advancements.
