Canadian Pacific Kansas City Sets New Standards in Grain Transportation
Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) achieves a remarkable milestone in February 2026, establishing a record for Canadian grain transportation. The company successfully moves 2.232 million metric tonnes (MMT) of grain and grain products during the month, surpassing its own previous record of 2.195 MMT set in February 2021. CPKC's progress is evidenced by the transportation of 23,088 carloads, another record for February, and a continuation of its robust performance following significant achievements in January 2026. During that month, CPKC also exceeded its own records by transporting 2.395 MMT across 24,688 carloads, highlighting the company’s operational efficiencies and capacity to handle increased volume.
This unprecedented momentum comes as CPKC reports a total of over 17.1 MMT of Canadian grain transported in the first 30 weeks of the 2025-2026 crop year, making it the highest total since the 2020-2021 crop year. The combined statistics from February 2026 not only reflect CPKC's strength within Canada but also set a landmark for grain movement across North America, with 46,896 carloads and approximately 4.501 MMT transported. This positions CPKC as a clear leader in facilitating grain exports, emphasizing the critical role of effective logistics and supply chain collaboration in its operations.
Elizabeth Hucker, CPKC's Vice-President of Sales and Marketing Bulk, credits this success to the dedicated efforts of CPKC's railroaders and supply chain partners. The achievements underline the importance of ongoing investments in the grain supply chain and enhancements made by customers in grain-handling capacities. CPKC recognizes that sustained success relies on the collective performance of all supply chain stakeholders, from loading facilities to terminal operators. The company communicates the necessity for effective planning and demand forecasting to continue meeting customer needs efficiently, showcasing its commitment to facilitating Canadian grain exports in a competitive global market.
In other relevant developments, CPKC's strong performance in grain transportation sets a solid precedent for future exports and indicates a proactive approach to meeting customer demands. This commitment is critical, especially as the company looks to leverage its operational capabilities to enhance service delivery throughout the year ahead. The collaborative model CPKC promotes not only enhances its own efficiencies but also strengthens the entire grain transport ecosystem across North America.
