Encompass Health expands Mississippi footprint
Encompass Health announces plans to build a freestanding, 50‑bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Flowood, Mississippi, its second facility in the state. The company says the hospital, expected to open in 2027, is designed to provide 24‑hour nursing care and specialized rehabilitative services for patients recovering from strokes and other neurological disorders, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations and complex orthopedic conditions.
New Flowood hospital centres on restoring daily function
The Flowood facility will deliver coordinated care from specialized nurses, therapists and physicians and offer physical, occupational and speech therapies aimed at restoring function and improving quality of life. Facility features include private patient rooms; a spacious therapy gym equipped with advanced rehabilitation technologies; an activities‑of‑daily‑living suite for practical skills training; an in‑house dialysis suite; plus a dining room, pharmacy and therapy courtyard to support comprehensive inpatient recovery.
Encompass Health frames the project as expanding access to high‑quality, specialized rehabilitation for residents of the Jackson area and central Mississippi, joining its existing Gulfport hospital. Brad Kennedy, Encompass Health group president, says the Flowood project will help patients regain independence and return to the lives they love, reflecting the company’s focus on technology and innovative treatments to maximize recovery.
Company scale and network
Encompass Health, the largest owner and operator of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals in the United States, operates a national network of 173 hospitals across 39 states and Puerto Rico. The company positions the new Flowood hospital as part of that network to shorten travel times and concentrate rehabilitative expertise closer to patients who require intensive post‑acute care.
Recognition and forward‑looking notes
The company highlights recent recognitions — named America’s Most Awarded Leader in Inpatient Rehabilitation by Newsweek and Statista and listed among Fortune’s World’s Most Admired Companies and Forbes’ America’s Best Companies — as reinforcing its reputation in post‑acute care. The announcement directs stakeholders to encompasshealth.com and includes customary forward‑looking statements about project timing and outcomes.
