Encompass Health picks Flowood for new 50‑bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital
Encompass Health says it is building a freestanding, 50‑bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Flowood, Mississippi, its second facility in the state after Gulfport, with an expected opening in 2027. The hospital provides 24‑hour nursing and specialised rehabilitative care for patients recovering from strokes, neurological disorders, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputations and complex orthopedic conditions. Care is coordinated among specialised nurses, therapists and physicians and centres on physical, occupational and speech therapies aimed at restoring function and improving quality of life.
The facility design centres on patient‑focused rehabilitation amenities, including private patient rooms, a spacious therapy gym equipped with advanced rehabilitation technologies and an activities‑of‑daily‑living suite that supports practical recovery. Encompass Health includes an in‑house dialysis suite for medically complex patients, plus a dining room, pharmacy and a therapy courtyard intended to support both clinical care and family engagement. The plan highlights use of technology and specialised infrastructure to shorten recovery times and aid transitions back to home and community life.
As the largest owner and operator of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals in the United States, Encompass Health says the Flowood hospital joins its national network of 173 hospitals across 39 states and Puerto Rico and brings specialised rehabilitation services closer to residents of the Jackson area and central Mississippi. Brad Kennedy, group president at Encompass Health, says the project helps patients regain independence and return to the lives they love, reflecting the company’s emphasis on maximising recovery through advanced treatment approaches.
