EnergyX Teams Up with Compass Minerals to Boost Lithium Extraction in Utah

- EnergyX partners with Compass Minerals to improve lithium extraction processes in Utah.
- The partnership aims to boost lithium production efficiency and sustainability.
- Compass Minerals is enhancing its capabilities in the growing lithium market.
EnergyX has established a significant partnership with Compass Minerals International (Ticker: UNDEFINED) through a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a large-scale direct lithium extraction (DLE) facility in Utah, designated as Project Powder Hound™. The facility is strategically located near the Great Salt Lake on land owned by Compass Minerals, tapping into an estimated 2.4 million metric tons of lithium carbonate equivalent. This collaboration is poised to make a substantial contribution to the U.S. lithium supply, addressing the growing demand for battery-grade materials.
Project Powder Hound™: A Game Changer for Lithium Supply
EnergyX plans to invest around $400 million into Project Powder Hound™, which is projected to produce 30,000 tons of lithium per annum. The facility's output will be developed in two phases, initially focusing on extracting 10,000 tpa from existing ponds. The second phase proposes to scale up production by an additional 20,000 tpa without increasing water withdrawal from the Great Salt Lake, thereby promoting sustainable practices. This strategic initiative not only strengthens domestic mineral extraction but also aligns with environmental conservation efforts.
Additionally, EnergyX’s GET-Lit™ technology will be integral to the project, ensuring high efficiency in lithium recovery while minimizing environmental impacts. The facility is expected to create nearly 200 jobs in the local community, further contributing to the economic vitality of the region. With a potential annual revenue exceeding $600 million at full operational capacity, this collaboration reinforces the importance of securing a reliable domestic supply chain for critical minerals in the U.S.
Strengthening the Domestic Lithium Landscape
This collaboration between EnergyX and Compass Minerals marks a significant step towards enhancing the critical minerals independence of the United States. As global demand for lithium continues to soar, particularly in the realm of electric vehicle production and energy storage solutions, this project addresses a crucial need by boosting local production capabilities.
Conclusion: The Future of Lithium Processing
In conclusion, the partnership between EnergyX and Compass Minerals highlights a proactive approach to establishing a sustainable and efficient lithium extraction process that promises to benefit both the economy and the environment. As Project Powder Hound™ moves forward, it stands as a test case for future initiatives in domestic mineral resource development.
