- Fluor’s nuclear construction experience and execution capability will help restore U.S. enrichment capability and secure supply chains.
Fluor to oversee EPC for Centrus’ Piketon enrichment expansion
Fluor is selected as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for Centrus Energy’s multi-billion-dollar expansion of uranium enrichment capacity in Piketon, Ohio, the companies announce. The deal pairs Fluor’s decades-long nuclear construction experience with Centrus’s centrifuge manufacturing program to accelerate large-scale deployment, engineering and design, and procurement of key materials for the project. Fluor will also provide supply‑chain management, site construction oversight and commissioning support as Centrus moves toward full production.
The appointment marks a pivotal role for Fluor in restoring U.S. uranium enrichment capability, supporting both commercial reactor fuel supply and national security missions. Centrus says the expansion aims to scale production of low-enriched uranium (LEU) to satisfy a commercial enrichment contingent backlog of about $2.3 billion and add 12 metric tons per year of high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) for next‑generation reactors. “This collaboration is a critical milestone,” Centrus President and CEO Amir Vexler says, adding that centrifuge manufacturing, launched in December 2025, is already underway.
Fluor executives underscore the project’s strategic importance for domestic supply chains and energy security. Senior Vice President Patrick Brown says Fluor’s execution capability will “empower the Ohio expansion,” while Fluor’s Al Collins says the partnership fully supports restoration of U.S. enrichment capability and national security. The engagement positions Fluor to manage complex nuclear‑grade procurement and construction tasks that are central to turning Centrus’s planned capacity into operating facilities.
Scale-up momentum and government backing
Centrus is concurrently securing government and private investments to underpin the expansion. Early in January 2026 the Department of Energy selects Centrus for a $900 million HALEU task order, and the company announces more than $560 million in investment to transition its advanced centrifuge factory. Centrus also notes a National Nuclear Security Administration notification of intent to sole‑source certain national security enrichment activities, reinforcing its role as a production‑ready option.
Jobs and regional supply‑chain impact
Centrus and Fluor say the project will fortify domestic supply chains and create local jobs in Ohio as construction and commissioning ramp up. Both companies frame the collaboration as central to expediting restoration of large‑scale U.S. enrichment capability that serves commercial reactor demand and national security objectives.
