GE Aerospace ramps Singapore MRO with $300 million modernization plan
GE Aerospace is investing up to $300 million over five years to transform its engine repair operations in Singapore, seeking to make the facility a premier maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) hub for the Asia-Pacific region. The plan, running from 2025 to 2029 and supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), focuses on advanced automation, digitization and AI-enabled inspection to speed turnaround and improve customer experience. GE says the investment modernizes tooling, upgrades facilities and phases in new technologies to reduce inspection times, increase throughput and lower lifecycle costs.
A central element of the overhaul is a new Module Repair capability for CFM LEAP-1A/1B High-Pressure Turbines (HPT), expanding the facility’s engine component portfolio and positioning it to handle a broader set of shop visits for regional airlines and MRO partners. GE also plans new industrial coating facilities, including REACH-compliant coatings and Anti-Corrosion Coating Repair, enabling more components to be serviced on-site. The combined upgrades aim to tighten delivery schedules while improving Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost — GE’s stated FLIGHT DECK fundamentals.
GE establishes an AI Center of Excellence in Singapore to drive predictive maintenance, automated digital inspection and an integrated data fabric ecosystem across on-wing support and MRO. The company says these digital capabilities make repair timelines and costs more predictable, and that phased deployment of AI tools will boost repair quality and reduce variability. Mohamed Ali, president and CEO of Commercial Engines & Services at GE Aerospace, frames the investment as a continuation of a “thriving partnership” with EDB that will bring breakthrough MRO capabilities to the region.
Regional service expansion
EDB says the expansion reinforces Singapore’s position as a global aerospace hub by introducing advanced manufacturing technologies and new repair capabilities to the local ecosystem. Iain Rodger, managing director of GE Aerospace Component Repair Singapore, highlights tangible customer benefits from increased capability and faster service delivery across the Asia-Pacific network.
Skills, jobs and ecosystem impact
GE and EDB say the program includes retraining local talent and is expected to create skilled, long-term employment opportunities in Singapore and the wider region. Cindy Koh, EDB executive vice president, adds that the AI Centre of Excellence will anchor both technical jobs and collaborative R&D with regional MRO partners.
