Harmonic Partners with KBRO to Modernize Broadband in Taiwan
Harmonic has cemented a partnership with KBRO, a leading multiple-system operator in Taiwan, to revolutionize its broadband access network through the implementation of Harmonic's fiber-on-demand solution. This collaboration leverages the advanced cOS™ virtualized broadband platform to support KBRO's modernization strategy, particularly focusing on enhancing their DOCSIS high-split network. As consumer demand for high-speed internet continues to escalate, the partnership enables KBRO to conduct demand-driven fiber expansions, positioning them to provide multi-gigabit broadband services that meet contemporary customer expectations.
PK Lee, Vice President of Engineering at KBRO, highlights the critical role of fiber-deep innovation in efficiently managing investments within the network. The strategic alliance allows KBRO to deploy fiber services in alignment with actual market demand, channeling resources to areas where they are needed most. The Harmonic solution utilizes existing Oyster Remote-PHY nodes, eliminating unnecessary infrastructure redundancy. This supports a more agile and cost-effective upgrade path to XGS-PON technology, ultimately enhancing network capacity and providing better pricing for higher internet speeds.
Jeffrey Glahn, Harmonic’s Senior Vice President of Global Sales, commends KBRO's proactive approach to advancing broadband infrastructure. He indicates that Harmonic is committed to equipping broadband service providers with effective strategies that facilitate fiber expansion. The cOS platform, which currently supports nearly 41 million customer premise equipment devices globally, showcases Harmonic’s extensive reach in fiber modernization initiatives throughout diverse markets, including North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asia. This partnership not only marks a significant milestone in KBRO’s vision for a scalable broadband framework but is also expected to greatly improve customer experiences through enhanced access to high-speed internet.
In addition to its work with KBRO, Harmonic has also announced a collaboration with TDF, a notable broadcast infrastructure operator in France. This partnership focuses on enhancing TDF's terrestrial broadcast network using Harmonic's XOS Advanced Media Processor and ProStream® X Video Stream Processor. The initiative aims to expand channel capacity while ensuring high video quality and efficient bandwidth usage across TDF's digital terrestrial television network.
Harmonic continues to emphasize its commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions that drive efficiency in both broadband and broadcast sectors. The collective efforts with KBRO and TDF showcase Harmonic’s adaptability and strategic positioning in the face of rising demand for high-quality media services worldwide.
