Holland America expands immersive Pacific and Mexico itineraries for 2027–28
Holland America Line is rolling out nearly three dozen new 2027–28 voyages that deepen destination exposure across Hawaii, Mexico (including extended Sea of Cortez calls), the Panama Canal and the Pacific Coast. The line schedules sailings October through April on mid‑sized ships Koningsdam, Eurodam, Nieuw Amsterdam and Zaandam from five North American homeports, positioning the voyages as accessible winter‑sun and holiday getaways that emphasize region‑rich programming over transit. Company executives frame the deployments as designed to give guests longer shore time, overnight stays and locally led experiences rather than merely adding ports.
The Hawaii program offers 17‑ and 18‑day Circle Hawaii itineraries calling at Nawiliwili (Kauai), Honolulu (Oahu), Kahului (Maui) and both Kona and Hilo on the Big Island, with some departures including overnight and multi‑day stays in Honolulu. Holland America pairs those sailings with a Hawaii Up Close series that blends agriculture, native arts, geology and stargazing with luaus and island entertainment, aiming to create deeper cultural connections. On Pacific Coast and Mexico voyages the line increases time in the Sea of Cortez and integrates Destination Dining™ and the Global Fresh Fish Program with immersive shore excursions, while British Columbia and Great Bear Rainforest sailings foreground rugged wilderness and wildlife encounters.
The program leverages Holland America’s long‑established West Coast expertise and mid‑sized ship design to access smaller ports and natural areas, offering curated cultural programming and excursions led by local experts. Guests are promised opportunities to encounter wildlife — from marine mammals to diverse bird species in destinations such as Tortuguero National Park — and to experience regional flavors and people through shore‑based partners. Paul Grigsby, the line’s vice president of itinerary planning and deployment, says the season provides something “for every type of cruiser” seeking sun, culture, nature and deeper local connection.
Industry context and fleet strategy
The announcement underscores a broader cruise‑industry shift toward immersive, experience‑led itineraries and longer port stays that allow for deeper engagement with destinations. Carnival Corporation, Holland America’s parent, continues to orient several of its brands toward regionally focused deployment and curated onshore programming to meet growing demand for nature and culture travel.
Operational notes
Holland America schedules the new voyages from five North American homeports and emphasizes seamless logistics and guest services to support longer calls and overnight stays. The line highlights its capacity to combine onboard culinary programs and local sourcing with shore excursions to deliver integrated destination experiences.
