Intrepid Potash Advances Domestic Lithium Production with White Silver Project
Intrepid Potash, Inc. announces a significant development with the publication of an updated Technical Report Summary for its White Silver Lithium Project. This project, situated at the company’s Wendover, Utah facility, aims to produce 5,000 tons per year of battery-grade lithium carbonate sourced from a by-product brine stream. The White Silver project represents the first large-scale production of high-purity lithium in the United States, positioning Intrepid to play a pivotal role in diversifying the U.S. supply chain for battery materials, which has historically relied on imports from Latin America and processing in East Asia. This initiative aligns with the growing demand for lithium fueled by the surge in electric vehicle manufacturing and energy storage solutions.
The project stands out due to its innovative approach that combines the extraction of lithium chloride with in-situ conversion to battery-grade lithium carbonate, achieving a purity level exceeding 99.5%. Spearheaded by White Silver LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Aquatech, the project is supported by advanced technology through the PEARL™ platform. This technology not only enhances the financial viability of the project but also ensures a reliable operational framework, critical for the achievement of both short- and long-term objectives. CEO Devesh Sharma emphasizes that this milestone reflects a developer-led methodology, merging resource comprehension with process efficiency, which is essential for establishing a sustainable domestic lithium production pathway.
Furthermore, the White Silver Lithium Project boasts an estimated total of 119,000 tons of measured and indicated lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE) resources, with the brine reservoir suggesting the potential for ongoing production. This capability underpins a theoretically perpetual productivity model, reinforcing the project’s role in securing the U.S. critical mineral supply chains. By committing to rigorous sustainability practices and cost-effectiveness, Intrepid Potash sets new standards in the industry, demonstrating the importance of domestic solutions in the global pursuit of clean energy resources.
In addition to the White Silver project, Intrepid Potash’s ongoing initiatives underscore a broader strategy focused on enhancing domestic mineral supply chains amidst rising global competition. The project signifies a promising shift toward a more sustainable approach, supporting both economic growth and environmental stewardship. As the United States increasingly prioritizes energy independence and sustainable resource management, initiatives such as these are crucial for aligning domestic production capabilities with future demand.
