Jacobs Solutions Partners with Sizewell C to Advance Low-Carbon Nuclear Energy in the UK
Jacobs Solutions has secured a pivotal role in the development of Sizewell C, a new low-carbon nuclear power station located on the Suffolk coast of England. The company is engaged through its Professional Services Framework for a five-year commitment, with the objective of delivering one of the UK's most critical energy projects. This initiative aims to produce reliable electricity capable of powering approximately six million homes while supporting the country's ambitious net-zero targets. Jacobs’ extensive experience in the nuclear sector, which spans over 60 years, positions it as a formidable partner in this endeavor, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
As part of its responsibilities, Jacobs will provide essential program management and project delivery services, ensuring that Sizewell C meets stringent technical requirements. Richard Sanderson, Jacobs' Executive Vice President for Europe, underscores the importance of the collaboration for the UK's clean energy future, emphasizing enhanced cooperation and delivery capabilities. The project is set to create tens of thousands of jobs, including 1,500 apprenticeships, and is expected to generate billions in supply chain opportunities. Jacobs’ involvement not only reflects its strategic positioning in the civil nuclear industry but also highlights its dedication to tackling complex global challenges through innovative energy solutions.
Once operational, Sizewell C is projected to generate around 3.2 gigawatts of electricity, which will make a significant contribution to the decarbonization of the UK’s power system. This development aligns with Jacobs' mission to foster a sustainable energy future by integrating advanced technologies and methodologies into large-scale projects. The company's role in Sizewell C reinforces its stature as a leader in the energy sector and its ongoing commitment to delivering projects that meet modern environmental standards while ensuring economic growth.
In addition to the Sizewell C project, Jacobs has been appointed as the progressive design-build contractor for a $200 million upgrade to the San José–Santa Clara Regional Wastewater Facility in California. This project focuses on modernizing the biosolids treatment infrastructure to boost reliability and sustainability. Key upgrades include replacement of aging digesters and the introduction of a new FOG receiving station, enhancing the facility's ability to process high-strength waste and convert it into clean energy, thereby decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.
Jacobs continues to demonstrate its capabilities across various sectors, including energy, environmental management, and infrastructure development. With a workforce of nearly 43,000 and annual revenues of approximately $12 billion, the company remains committed to addressing the pressing challenges of climate change while driving innovation in the global energy landscape.
