Jacobs wins SHIELD task award to build scalable missile‑defense software
Scaling software for U.S. missile defence networks
Jacobs Solutions is awarded a task order under the U.S. Missile Defense Agency’s Scalable Homeland Innovative Enterprise Layered Defense (SHIELD) IDIQ, a vehicle with a $151 billion ceiling that is designed to speed delivery of software‑enabled capabilities for national defence. The company says the work emphasizes development and integration of advanced, scalable solutions across complex, mission‑critical system environments and will focus on software‑centric contributions to secure digital architectures and resilient systems.
Jacobs highlights its role in delivering mission management, advanced data processing, cyber, artificial intelligence and machine‑learning, edge computing, and modeling and simulation to support layered defence across land, air, maritime and space. Executive Vice President Susannah Kerr says Jacobs will apply modular software architectures, commercial partnerships and cross‑domain expertise to accelerate deployment of capabilities while using digital engineering and systems‑of‑systems approaches to meet evolving MDA requirements and timelines.
The award positions Jacobs to compete for task orders spanning research, development, integration, testing and sustainment under the SHIELD IDIQ. Jacobs says it will apply rigorous cybersecurity practices and lifecycle program management as it integrates new software modules into existing defence systems, leveraging its end‑to‑end services across feasibility, planning, design and sustainment to support national security infrastructure.
Cross‑sector delivery capacity
Jacobs frames the SHIELD work as an extension of its broader technical footprint. The company reports roughly $12 billion in annual revenue and a workforce of almost 43,000, and it points to experience across advanced manufacturing, cities and places, energy, environmental, life sciences, transportation and water as part of its ability to deliver systems integration and lifecycle services for government and private sector clients.
Commercial and budgetary caveats
Jacobs includes customary forward‑looking statements noting actual outcomes may differ because of uncertainties such as timing of awards, funding availability and potential changes to Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act provisions. The firm expects to vie for multiple task orders under SHIELD but acknowledges competition, funding cadence and evolving contract requirements could affect workload and schedules.
