Northland Power Achieves Major Milestone with Hai Long Offshore Wind Project

Northland Power Inc. (TSX: NPI) reaches a crucial milestone with its Hai Long Offshore Wind Project in Taiwan, successfully connecting to Taipower’s grid ahead of schedule for the latter half of 2025. This achievement marks the first power generation from the project, which is designed to have a capacity of 1 gigawatt (GW) and is expected to begin full commercial operations by 2027. The project’s progress reflects Northland Power's commitment to renewable energy and its significant role in supporting Taiwan's ambitious renewable energy targets.

Since the commencement of construction, the Hai Long project has made substantial advancements, including the commissioning of both onshore and offshore substations. The installation of all 219 pin piles has been completed, and the project has seen the assembly of Taiwan’s first locally manufactured 14 megawatt (MW) wind turbine nacelle. Currently, 14 out of the 73 planned turbines have been installed, demonstrating the effective collaboration and dedication of the Northland Power team and its partners. Christine Healy, the company’s President and CEO, emphasizes the collective effort that has facilitated this milestone, underscoring the project's significance for Taiwan's energy landscape.

The Hai Long Offshore Wind Project is poised to play a vital role in Taiwan's renewable energy goals, contributing to the national target of achieving 15 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2035. Once operational, it is expected to provide clean electricity to over one million homes, positioning Northland Power as a key player in the Asia-Pacific offshore wind sector. Toby Edmonds, Executive Vice President of Offshore Wind, highlights that this accomplishment not only reflects the company’s commitment to renewable energy but also aligns with Taiwan's broader objectives of enhancing energy security and sustainability.

In addition to this milestone, Northland Power's experience in energy infrastructure, spanning nearly four decades, reinforces its capability in managing large-scale renewable projects. The Hai Long project not only signifies a step forward for Northland Power but also showcases Taiwan’s potential as a leader in offshore wind energy development in the region.

As the project progresses, Northland Power remains focused on delivering sustainable energy solutions that contribute to both local and global environmental goals, affirming its dedication to fostering cleaner energy infrastructure worldwide.
