Nscale’s recent acquisition of the Monarch Compute Campus marks a significant advancement in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. Located in Mason County, West Virginia, this facility is the first state-certified AI microgrid in the United States, with the capacity to generate over 8 gigawatts of power. This strategic expansion greatly enhances Nscale's existing capabilities, which currently exceed 1 gigawatt, positioning the company to meet the anticipated rise in global demand for AI computing resources. The Monarch Compute Campus, spanning 2,250 acres, will serve as a crucial cornerstone for developing AI training and inference systems, supporting the accelerating evolution of advanced AI models.

As part of a forward-thinking collaboration, Nscale has signed a letter of intent with Microsoft to deliver up to 1.35 gigawatts of AI compute capacity. This ambitious plan involves using NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin NVL72 GPUs, a cutting-edge technology specifically designed to handle large-scale AI applications. Initial deployment is slated to begin in late 2027, with Nscale planning for a multi-phase rollout that signifies a long-term commitment to enhancing AI infrastructure in the U.S. With the expected rise in data center demand—forecasted by McKinsey to reach 156 gigawatts by 2030—the Monarch campus is poised to play a vital role in addressing these growing needs efficiently.
