Sempra spotlights on-site resilience solutions at World Ag Expo
Southern California Gas Co., a Sempra unit, is using the World Ag Expo to spotlight microgrid and combined heat and power (CHP) solutions aimed at bolstering regional energy resilience and reliability. At its booth, SoCalGas is showcasing fuel‑flexible systems developed with San Diego‑based BSD Builders that supply continuous power for critical facilities and can run on natural gas, renewable natural gas or hydrogen. The company emphasizes these systems’ relevance to healthcare, agriculture and food processing, positioning them as cost‑effective, dependable alternatives to grid‑only supply.
Sempra and BSD describe 10 active development projects that integrate onsite generation with heat recovery, reflecting a broader push to align infrastructure with state reliability and decarbonization goals. Company representatives say the projects offer both immediate resilience benefits and pathways to lower carbon intensity through fuel substitution and efficiency gains. SoCalGas staff at the expo provide technical briefings and estimates of savings from efficiency upgrades, framing microgrids and CHP as practical tools for customers facing power interruption risks and evolving regulatory expectations.
The expo presence also functions as community outreach: SoCalGas intends to field questions on enrollment for bill assistance and energy‑efficiency rebates while promoting pipeline safety practices such as calling 811 before digging. The company stresses collaboration with local partners to expand program reach and to tailor resilience solutions to agricultural and rural needs, reinforcing its long‑standing role at the event and its focus on customer‑facing deployment of distributed energy resources.
Sempra gains recognition for corporate reputation
Separately, Sempra is named once again to Fortune’s World’s Most Admired Companies list for the 16th consecutive year, a recognition it frames as validation of investments in leadership and workforce development. The accolade, based on surveys of executives, directors and analysts across nine attributes including innovation and social responsibility, complements Sempra’s inclusion on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index North America.
Broader company positioning and outreach
Sempra highlights other recent honors such as listings on The Wall Street Journal’s Management Top 250, Forbes’ America’s Best Employers for Company Culture and Newsweek’s America’s Most Responsible Companies, underscoring its emphasis on sustainable practices as it operates one of North America’s largest energy networks serving nearly 40 million consumers.
