Sintana Energy Secures Extended Exploration License in Namibia's Orange Basin

Sintana Energy Inc., a Canadian oil and natural gas exploration company, solidifies its strategic position in Namibia’s Orange Basin by announcing a 12-month extension of its Petroleum Exploration License 79 (PEL 79). This extension prolongs the license period until July 2026, allowing Sintana to further explore the region’s significant geological potential. The company holds a 49% interest in PEL 79, which is co-operated with the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR) and Giraffe Energy Investments, signaling a collaborative effort in harnessing the area's resources. With NAMCOR holding a 67% stake and Giraffe holding 33%, Sintana is well-positioned to leverage this partnership for potential discoveries.

The significance of PEL 79 lies in its proximity to notable oil discoveries, including a recent light oil discovery by Rhino Resources within PEL 85 that achieved a flow rate of 11,000 barrels per day. Sintana’s PEL 79 is backed by an extensive prospect inventory, bolstered by over 4,760 kilometers of 2D seismic data and 1,137 square kilometers of 3D seismic data. Additionally, the area has a well that intersects the Kudu source rock, further enhancing the prospectivity of the license. With the increase in exploration activities in the region, evidenced by advancements from other major players like BW Energy and Shell, Sintana is poised to capitalize on this momentum.

CEO Robert Bose expresses gratitude towards NAMCOR for their leadership in securing the license extension. He emphasizes that this development positions Sintana to actively engage in the ongoing exploration initiatives in the Orange Basin. The company is keen on unlocking value from its offshore Namibian licenses and anticipates substantial progress in the coming quarters. Sintana's commitment to exploring PEL 79 aligns with the broader trend of intensified exploration in Namibia, highlighting the region's emerging role in the global oil and gas sector.

In addition to the license extension, Sintana Energy continues to monitor the overall landscape in Namibia's oil exploration sector. As exploration activities ramp up, the company remains focused on maximizing its operational capabilities and advancing its projects to achieve significant milestones. The collaborative environment among local and international companies in the region is expected to foster further discoveries and advancements in oil production, solidifying Namibia's status as an attractive destination for energy investments.
