Sintana Energy Secures Extended Exploration License in Namibia's Orange Basin
Sintana Energy Inc., a Canadian oil and natural gas exploration company, enhances its prospects in Namibia's Orange Basin by securing a 12-month extension on its Petroleum Exploration Licence 79 (PEL 79), now valid until July 2026. This extension not only affirms Sintana's commitment to the region but also aligns with the growing momentum in oil exploration activities nearby. Sintana holds a 49% interest in PEL 79, which is operated in collaboration with the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR) and Giraffe Energy Investments. NAMCOR holds a controlling 67% interest, while Giraffe owns the remaining 33%. This collaborative arrangement positions Sintana strategically within a region that is becoming increasingly attractive for exploration.
The geological landscape of PEL 79 is promising, as it benefits from an extensive prospect inventory bolstered by over 4,760 kilometers of 2D seismic and 1,137 square kilometers of 3D seismic data. Notably, an existing well has intersected the Kudu source rock, indicating potential for significant hydrocarbon resources. Sintana's license area is situated near notable oil discoveries, including a significant light oil find by Rhino Resources in the adjacent PEL 85. This discovery, which produced at rates of 11,000 barrels per day from a substantial oil-bearing reservoir, underscores the potential riches within the region. As exploration activity intensifies, Sintana is well-positioned to leverage its existing data and partnerships to explore and develop its assets further.
CEO Robert Bose expresses his appreciation for NAMCOR's leadership in securing the license extension. He emphasizes that this development enables Sintana to capitalize on the ongoing exploration momentum and the geological potential of PEL 79. The company anticipates substantial progress in the upcoming quarters, focusing on unlocking value from its offshore Namibian licenses. With fellow operators like BW Energy and Shell also making significant strides in the vicinity, Sintana is poised to play a pivotal role in the region’s emerging oil landscape.
In addition to the license extension, Sintana Energy remains committed to advancing its exploration efforts in Namibia, responding effectively to the competitive dynamics of the oil industry. The strategic partnership with NAMCOR and Giraffe Energy Investments further strengthens its operational capabilities and market positioning. As the company navigates the evolving landscape of offshore exploration, it aims to contribute meaningfully to the future of energy production in Namibia.
