HEICO unit rolls out NewSpace point‑of‑load converter
VPT, a HEICO company, is expanding its space power portfolio with a new point‑of‑load DC–DC converter aimed at low Earth orbit (LEO) small satellites and NASA Class D missions. The VSCPL1210SG joins VPT’s VSC Series as the first point‑of‑load module designed to complete a COTS power‑conversion suite that includes isolated converters and EMI filters. VPT says the part delivers up to 10 amps with peak efficiency of 95% and supports board‑level integration through surface‑mount reflow compatibility.
VSCPL1210SG targets compact satellite power chains by combining high efficiency, tight regulation and mechanical features intended for space environments. The converter operates from a 4.5–13.2 V input and provides an adjustable output between 0.8 and 5.0 V while maintaining operation across −55 °C to +105 °C without power derating. Proprietary packaging enables dual‑side heatsinking and is specified for low outgassing, simplifying thermal management and assembly on small satellite PCBs.
Radiation hardness and reliability are central to the design as VPT positions the device for NewSpace customers that balance cost and mission assurance. The VSCPL1210SG is radiation tested to 42 MeV/mg/cm² with no destructive single‑event effects reported (SEGR, SEB, SEL) and is tested to 40 krad(Si) with a guaranteed total ionizing dose (TID) tolerance of 30 krad(Si) under VPT’s in‑house radiation hardness assurance plan. “We designed the VSCPL1210SG to deliver high efficiency, tight regulation, and simplified board‑level integration while maintaining the radiation tolerance required for LEO environments,” says Brandon Witcher, principal design engineer.
Certification, manufacturing and sales
VPT manufactures the VSCPL1210SG in facilities certified to ISO9001, J‑STD‑001 and IPC‑A‑610 standards, and the product is available to order immediately. VPT notes that sales and shipments comply with applicable U.S. export license restrictions and encourages customers to request detailed qualification and radiation test reports as part of procurement and program qualification processes.
Roadmap and product positioning
The new point‑of‑load model complements VPT’s hermetic hybrid SVL Series of rad‑hard products, including items listed on Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) SMDs, and expands the company’s NewSpace offering. VPT plans two additional point‑of‑load variants later in the year — a 10 A VSCPL0510SG and a 20 A VSCPL1220SG — to broaden power options for small spacecraft and cost‑sensitive missions.
