VPT unveils VSCPL1210SG: 10A space-grade point‑of‑load DC–DC converter for small satellites
- VPT, a HEICO company, unveils the VSCPL1210SG, the first point-of-load DC–DC in its VSC Series.
- Module delivers up to 10 A, 95% peak efficiency, 4.5–13.2 V input, 0.8–5.0 V output.
- Positioned as part of a full board-level power solution with isolated DC–DC converters and EMI filters.
HEICO unit expands NewSpace power options
VPT, a HEICO company, unveils the VSCPL1210SG, the first point‑of‑load DC–DC converter in its VSC Series of space‑grade COTS power supplies, aimed at small satellites and NASA Class D missions. The surface‑mount module delivers up to 10 A with peak efficiency of 95%, operates from 4.5–13.2 V input, and provides an adjustable 0.8–5.0 V output. VPT positions the device as part of a full power‑conversion solution that also includes isolated DC–DC converters and EMI filters for board‑level power architectures.
The VSCPL1210SG is engineered for the thermal and radiation conditions of low Earth orbit, maintaining operation across −55 °C to +105 °C with no power derating and featuring proprietary packaging that supports dual‑side heatsinking and low outgassing. VPT subjects the module to radiation testing to 42 MeV/mg/cm² with no destructive single‑event effects and to 40 krad(Si), and it guarantees a total ionizing dose (TID) of 30 krad(Si) under the company’s in‑house radiation hardness assurance plan. Brandon Witcher, principal design engineer, says the unit is designed to balance high efficiency, tight regulation and simplified board‑level integration while meeting LEO radiation tolerance requirements.
VPT highlights manufacturing and quality credentials, noting production in facilities certified to ISO9001, J‑STD‑001 and IPC‑A‑610 standards. The company frames the VSC series as a NewSpace offering that balances cost and guaranteed performance, enabling customers deploying smaller satellites and cost‑constrained missions to adopt tested COTS solutions rather than higher‑cost hermetic rad‑hard parts.
Follow‑on models and product positioning
VPT plans two additional point‑of‑load models later in the year — the VSCPL0510SG, another 10 A variant, and the higher‑current VSCPL1220SG at 20 A — and positions the VSC Series to complement its hermetic SVL Series rad‑hard hybrids, which are available on DLA SMDs. The company frames the line as filling a market niche for NewSpace systems that require radiation tolerance without the expense of traditional military‑grade parts.
Ordering, compliance and support
The VSCPL1210SG is available to order now, subject to applicable U.S. export license restrictions, and VPT advises customers to request qualification data and radiation test reports. Additional technical information, lead times and pricing are available through VPT sales channels.
