Founders take Florida on tour to spotlight captive elephant welfare
Wildlife SOS launches its 2026 "Tour for Tusks" in Florida, sending co‑founders Kartick Satyanarayan and Geeta Seshamani to raise awareness of the exploitation of elephants used for begging, tourism and entertainment. The second annual speaking tour aims to link public education with direct support for the organisation’s Elephant Conservation and Care Centre and its Begging Elephant Campaign, which provide specialized veterinary care and rehabilitation for elephants across India.
The tour combines live presentations with an exclusive screening of the award‑winning documentary My Sweet Paro at every stop, using storytelling to put a human face on conservation work. Organisers say each event includes a meet‑and‑greet with the founders, opportunities for audiences to ask questions and calls to action intended to translate awareness into policy influence, fundraising and grassroots engagement to reduce human‑wildlife conflict. Nikki Sharp, executive director of Wildlife SOS USA, says elephants are "intelligent, emotional beings who suffer immensely when forced into lives of captivity and constant labor," and that visibility and understanding motivate people to join solutions.
Wildlife SOS frames the campaign as a vehicle for direct impact. Proceeds from ticket sales and donations are earmarked for elephant medical treatment, habitat protection programmes and community outreach, and the organisation invites individuals, schools, zoos and conservation groups to partner or donate during the 2026 campaign. Organisers also emphasise international collaboration and local community education as central to securing long‑term welfare improvements for India’s elephants.
Short logistics note
Specific Florida dates announced so far include Jacksonville on March 7 at the Museum of Contemporary Art and St. Petersburg on March 13, with additional stops to be announced. Wildlife SOS says tickets and registration links will be posted on Wildlife SOS USA’s website and social channels, and that event details and venue information will be updated as the tour schedule is finalised.
Film and frontline care spotlight
My Sweet Paro, which chronicles the bond between an older blind elephant named Suzy and her caregiver Baburam at Wildlife SOS, serves as a recurring focal point of the presentations and underlines the organisation’s message that rescue and long‑term care are feasible with sufficient funding and public will. The tour therefore acts both as a fundraiser and as an outreach platform aimed at shifting public perception and policy around captive elephant use.
