Investor Insight

Why this opportunity matters now

Gunnison Copper Corp. (TSX: GCU | OTCQB: GCUMF | FSE: 3XS0) is America's newest copper producer, operating the Johnson Camp Mine (JCM) in Cochise County, Arizona and advancing its flagship Gunnison Copper Project — one of the most substantial open-pit copper development assets in the United States. With a 2026 PEA reporting an after-tax NPV8% of approximately US$2.0 billion and an IRR of 22.5%, the Gunnison Project is positioned as a key domestic solution to the global copper supply deficit.

Gunnison controls the Cochise Mining District, encompassing 12 known copper deposits within an 8 km economic radius in the Southern Arizona Copper Belt. The company's Johnson Camp Mine reached first commercial copper cathode sales in 2025 and operates in partnership with Nuton LLC, a Rio Tinto venture deploying advanced bio-leaching technology to expand production and unlock the district's sulfide potential. Gunnison fully eliminated its Nebari secured debt in early 2026, entering a debt-free position as it advances financing for the Gunnison open-pit project. The company's 100% Made-in-America copper cathode is targeted directly at U.S. energy, defense, data center, and manufacturing supply chains — markets facing a structural domestic copper shortage.

Company Overview

Who Gunnison Copper Corp is and what they do

Gunnison Copper Corp. is a multi-asset pure-play copper developer and producer headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. Formerly known as Excelsior Mining Corp., the company rebranded in November 2024 and trades on the TSX (GCU), OTCQB (GCUMF), and Frankfurt Stock Exchange (3XS0). Gunnison develops and operates copper mines in Southern Arizona to produce fully Made-in-America finished copper cathode, supplying domestic energy, defense, and manufacturing supply chains.

The company controls the Cochise Mining District in southeastern Arizona, comprising 12 known copper deposits within an 8 km economic radius. Its operating asset, the Johnson Camp Mine (JCM), is now producing 99.999% pure copper cathode in partnership with Nuton LLC (a Rio Tinto venture), which is deploying proprietary bio-leaching technologies to expand production capacity to up to 25 million pounds of finished copper cathode annually. Gunnison's flagship development asset, the Gunnison Copper Project, is located approximately 65 miles east of Tucson on the southeastern flank of the Little Dragoon Mountains and is designed as a conventional open-pit, heap leach, SX/EW operation with a direct rail link, producing finished copper cathode on-site. The company prides itself on hiring locally, purchasing locally, and selling its products domestically.

Company Highlights

Key competitive advantages at a glance

America's Newest Copper Producer

Johnson Camp Mine achieved first commercial copper cathode sales in 2025, establishing Gunnison as a new U.S. copper producer. Operating in partnership with Nuton LLC, a Rio Tinto venture, with capacity of up to 25 million lbs of finished copper cathode annually.

Flagship Project: ~US$2B NPV8%

The 2026 PEA on the Gunnison Copper Project reports an after-tax NPV8% of approximately US$2.0 billion, IRR of 22.5%, and payback period of 3.9 years at a long-term copper price of US$4.60/lb — a 55% increase over the 2024 PEA.

District-Scale Resource Base

Controls the Cochise Mining District with 12 known deposits within an 8 km economic radius. Flagship Gunnison Project has a Measured and Indicated Mineral Resource of over 846.1 million tons at 0.33% Cu (M: 191.5 Mt at 0.37%; I: 654.5 Mt at 0.31%).

Low-Cost, Long-Life Operation

21-year mine life with average annual copper cathode production of 174 million lbs for the first 15 years. Cash costs of US$1.70/lb and All-In Sustaining Cash Costs of US$2.05/lb position Gunnison in the lower half of the global copper cost curve.

Rio Tinto Partnership via Nuton LLC

Nuton LLC, a Rio Tinto venture, fully funds the JCM construction and is deploying its proprietary bio-leaching technologies to expand production and unlock the district's sulfide copper potential. Rio Tinto has successfully produced copper at JCM using Nuton Technology, with AWS as first customer.

Simplified Permitting Pathway

The Gunnison Project has no federal permitting nexus, is on flat ground with no identified endangered species or habitat, and no historical or archaeological artefacts identified — enabling a more streamlined amendment process to existing State and Local operating permits.

Cement Co-Product Strategy

High-purity limestone overburden, previously treated as waste, is now incorporated into a cement co-product plan estimated to add US$130 million to project NPV8% while addressing a regional cement supply deficit in Arizona.

Significant U.S. Economic Impact

An independent economic impact study by the University of Arizona projects Gunnison's operations will create over 112,744 job years, contribute US$558 million in state and local taxes, US$1.43 billion in federal taxes, and US$21.9 billion in total economic output.

Gunnison Copper Project

Large-scale open-pit copper development in Cochise County, Arizona — post-tax NPV8% ~US$2.0 billion

The Gunnison Copper Project is located approximately 65 miles east of Tucson, Arizona, within the Cochise Mining District on the southeastern flank of the Little Dragoon Mountains. The 2026 PEA, completed by M3 Engineering & Technology Corporation and effective February 22, 2026, outlines a conventional open-pit, heap leach, SX/EW operation with a 21-year mine life producing 99.999% pure LME Grade A copper cathode on-site. The mine plan is primarily focused on oxide copper mineralization with 541 million tons of material expected to be placed on the leach pad at an average grade of 0.43% total copper. The project benefits from a direct rail link for copper cathode delivery, a cement co-product strategy, and incorporation of the nearby Strong & Harris satellite deposit. The Gunnison open pit has 100% private and State land ownership with no federal permitting nexus, supporting a streamlined path to development approval.
