Alliant International University Advances Library Services with FOLIO Implementation

Alliant International University takes a significant step towards modernizing its library operations by implementing FOLIO, an open-source library services platform. This transition, supported by EBSCO Information Services, marks a major upgrade from the university’s previous integrated library system (ILS), which had been in place for nearly 15 years. The introduction of FOLIO aims to streamline workflows for library staff and enhance the research experience for students and faculty across Alliant's six campuses. University Librarian Scott Zimmer emphasizes that FOLIO will integrate discovery, management, and analytics tools into a cohesive environment, thereby improving support for scholarship and access to resources.

The groundwork for this implementation is already in place, facilitated by a recent migration to EBSCO Discovery Service™ (EDS) and Full Text Finder™ (FTF). These tools have laid the foundation for a phased approach to integrating FOLIO, promoting a more efficient and user-friendly library environment. With the adoption of FOLIO, Alliant International University not only enhances its operational capabilities but also aligns its library services with contemporary demands for data-informed decision-making regarding collections. This move highlights the university's commitment to providing robust library resources that support academic excellence.

Kathy McCarthy, EBSCO's Director of SaaS Innovation, points out that Alliant's utilization of multiple EBSCO solutions showcases the advantages of an interconnected library ecosystem. By streamlining operations, the university can make informed decisions that enhance user experience and resource management. This partnership with EBSCO underscores the importance of having scalable, data-driven tools that support libraries in meeting the evolving needs of academic institutions, ultimately benefiting students and faculty alike.

In addition to advancements in library services, Alliant Credit Union Foundation actively engages with the community through initiatives aimed at promoting financial literacy. Recently, the foundation, in collaboration with Visa, hosted a financial literacy event at Ridgewood High School in Norridge, Illinois. The program featured interactive activities designed to equip students with essential money management skills, reflecting Alliant's commitment to community investment and empowerment.

The Alliant Credit Union Foundation also awarded scholarships totaling $4,000 to Ridgewood students as part of its efforts to support educational opportunities.
