Strategic Partnership to Enhance Sustainable Nuclear Energy Solutions

Lightbridge Corporation, an innovator in advanced nuclear fuel technology, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Oklo Inc., a company known for its work in advanced nuclear power and fuel recycling. This agreement sets the stage for a feasibility study that will explore the possibility of co-locating a Lightbridge commercial-scale fuel fabrication facility at Oklo’s proposed site. This strategic move not only aims to streamline the processes involved in fuel production but also opens avenues for collaborative efforts in nuclear waste recycling. Both companies recognize the potential of this partnership to optimize operations, thereby reducing significant capital expenditures and operational costs.

Seth Grae, President and CEO of Lightbridge, articulates the transformative potential of this collaboration. He highlights that the combined expertise of both companies is poised to enhance the overall sustainability of nuclear energy solutions. The integration of Lightbridge's advanced fuel technology with Oklo's innovative approach to nuclear energy is expected to yield significant advancements in the nuclear supply chain. This partnership aligns with the broader industry goal of promoting a sustainable energy future, particularly as the global demand for clean energy alternatives continues to rise.

Oklo, which is actively working on the development of advanced nuclear power plants, has already made notable progress by securing a site use permit from the U.S. Department of Energy and obtaining fuel material from the Idaho National Laboratory. Additionally, the company has submitted the first advanced fission custom combined license application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, positioning itself as a leader in the nuclear innovation space. As both companies leverage their respective strengths, they aim to contribute to a new era of nuclear energy that emphasizes safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility.

In parallel with this partnership, Lightbridge is advancing its proprietary Lightbridge Fuel™ technology, which is designed for use in existing light water reactors and small modular reactors (SMRs). This technology focuses on enhancing reactor safety, economic viability, and proliferation resistance, further supporting the transition to a zero-carbon electric grid.

Moreover, Lightbridge has forged two long-term agreements with Battelle Energy Alliance, the management contractor for the Idaho National Laboratory, to bolster its research and development initiatives in nuclear energy. These partnerships signal a robust commitment to advancing nuclear technology and ensuring that the future of energy generation is both sustainable and secure.
