Telix Pharmaceuticals Expands Nuclear Medicine Production Capabilities in Belgium

Telix Pharmaceuticals Limited announces the completion of the installation of two new cyclotrons at its Telix Manufacturing Solutions (TMS) facility in Brussels South, Belgium. This significant development enhances the company's ability to produce radioisotopes and patient doses, with operations expected to commence in 2025. The newly installed cyclotrons, obtained from industry leaders GE HealthCare and IBA, will transform TMS Brussels South into a pivotal nuclear medicine production hub for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region. One cyclotron is dedicated to clinical and commercial supply, while the other focuses on research and development, underscoring Telix's commitment to advancing the field of radiopharmaceuticals.

The TMS facility has secured an updated radiation license from the Belgian Federal Agency for Nuclear Control (FANC), allowing for the production of a wide variety of medical isotopes. The cyclotrons will employ ARTMS’ QUANTM Irradiation System™, facilitating the efficient large-scale production of isotopes such as gallium-68 (68Ga), zirconium-89 (89Zr), fluorine-18 (18F), and copper-64 (64Cu). Notably, the facility is also equipped to produce research quantities of actinium-225 (225Ac), a critical isotope for targeted alpha therapy. Darren Patti, Telix's Group Chief Operating Officer, emphasizes the pressing need for reliable radiopharmaceutical supply in the EU, projecting over 10 million procedures in the region this year alone.

The commissioning of the cyclotrons is scheduled for early Q1 2025, with the first commercial good manufacturing practice (GMP) production expected in the latter half of 2025, contingent on necessary audits and accreditation. Covering 2,800 square meters, TMS Brussels South ranks among Europe's largest radiopharmaceutical production sites, featuring nine GMP lines and clean rooms. This expansion not only positions Telix Pharmaceuticals as a key player in the nuclear medicine space but also aims to enhance patient access to critical therapies across the EMEA region.
