- The initiative focuses on closing the digital divide in these communities.
- Aviat drives broadband access using innovative microwave and multi-band systems.
Aviat Networks, Inc. (AVNW) has announced an expanded partnership with Nextlink Internet, a rural internet service provider that caters to over 100,000 subscribers across 12 states. This partnership aligns with the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program initiative, aimed at enhancing internet connectivity in areas that lack reliable services. Nextlink plans to leverage Aviat’s high-performance microwave, E-Band, and multi-band systems to improve access for thousands of unserved and underserved locations in the Central United States.
Strategic Partnership and Infrastructure Investment
With a significant investment of over $180 million from BEAD funding, along with an additional $429.2 million awarded through the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF), Nextlink is positioned for a major infrastructure expansion. This includes the activation of its first BEAD-funded wireless tower, underscoring the urgent need for enhanced connectivity. Cameron Kilton, Nextlink's Chief Technology Officer, highlights the importance of having reliable technology partners like Aviat to fulfill their mission of providing fast and dependable internet access to underserved communities.
Aviat’s Role in Expanding Broadband Access
Pete Smith, President and CEO of Aviat Networks, expresses pride in being a preferred partner for wireless internet service providers (WISPs) seeking federal broadband funding. The partnership not only aims to reduce the total cost of ownership within Nextlink's network but also facilitates a rapid deployment of services. This initiative is particularly important for communities that have historically waited for improvements in connectivity, showcasing Aviat’s commitment to enhancing broadband access in rural America.
Nextlink's Commitment to Digital Equity
Nextlink has invested over $1 billion in initiatives aimed at bridging the digital divide, boasting a network of more than 2,600 active towers and holding a strong portfolio of CBRS Priority Access Licenses in the United States. This reinforces their commitment to improving internet access in smaller communities throughout their expansive service area.
As Aviat Networks and Nextlink push forward with their joint efforts, they embody the essential goal of ensuring that reliable internet access becomes a reality for all Americans, particularly in rural settings.
