Canadian Solar Launches TOPCon 3.0 Module to Transform Renewable Energy Market and Efficiency

- Canadian Solar’s TOPCon 3.0 module features a power output of up to 670 Wp and 24.8% efficiency.
- The module's design ensures less than 1% degradation in the first year, promising long-term reliability and performance.
- Canadian Solar expands into energy storage, partnering with Axpo to develop an 8 MW battery system in Italy.
Canadian Solar Inc. (CSIQ) is set to significantly impact the renewable energy market with the introduction of its innovative TOPCon 3.0 high-power-density photovoltaic module. Launched recently, this cutting-edge technology is specifically tailored for utility-scale power plants and commercial and industrial (C&I) photovoltaic systems. The module boasts a remarkable power output of up to 670 Wp and boasts a conversion efficiency of 24.8%. Mass shipments are slated to begin in August 2026, offering a promising solution to meet the growing demand for clean energy. Its advanced multi-cut technology incorporates large-format rectangular cells while maintaining compact dimensions of 2382 × 1134 × 30 mm, facilitating efficient logistics and system integration, which is vital for large-scale deployments.
Enhancing Output and Efficiency
The TOPCon 3.0 module emphasizes enhanced energy yield and a lower Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE), increasing project economics and delivering substantial long-term returns. With a bifaciality feature allowing for an additional 0.4%–0.5% energy gain and a low temperature coefficient of -0.26%/°C, this module optimizes performance even in high-temperature conditions. Canadian Solar’s commitment to reliability is evident in the module’s design, ensuring less than 1% degradation in the first year, further demonstrating a projected output of over 88.85% after 30 years. Dr. Shawn Qu, Executive Chairman and CTO of Canadian Solar, asserts that this advancement in technology positions the company to better meet customer needs while enhancing lifecycle value.
Global Showcase and Strategic Positioning
The impending launch is set to be featured prominently at Intersolar Europe from June 23 to 25 in Munich, Germany, reinforcing Canadian Solar’s dedication to innovation in renewable energy solutions. This strategic introduction not only aims to solidify the company’s standing in a competitive landscape but also reflects the increasing global demand for high-efficiency solar technologies. Canadian Solar’s TOPCon 3.0 high-power-density photovoltaic module exemplifies the company’s drive toward sustainability while addressing the energy challenges faced by both utilities and businesses today.
Expanding Energy Storage Solutions
In addition to the TOPCon 3.0 launch, Canadian Solar is deepening its footprints in the European market with its e-STORAGE division. Recently, the company entered into a partnership with Axpo to develop an 8 MW/40 MWh battery energy storage system in Italy. This initiative marks the first project for e-STORAGE in Italy and aims to enhance grid reliability while addressing regional energy challenges. The construction is anticipated to begin at the end of 2026, with commercial operations expected by early 2028. This project underscores Canadian Solar’s strategy to diversify its energy portfolio and capitalize on the growing energy storage market, thereby contributing to a more efficient and sustainable energy ecosystem.
