Leadership Transition at PCs for People: A New Era in Digital Inclusion
PCs for People, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging the digital divide, announces the upcoming departure of its Cofounder and CEO, Casey Sorensen, effective December 26, 2025. Sorensen has played a pivotal role since the organization’s inception in 2008, leading it from a modest two-person operation to a significant player in the realm of digital inclusion. Under his stewardship, the organization has expanded its reach to 11 communities, serving approximately 250,000 households, and has distributed over 400,000 computers while connecting more than 1 million individuals to essential technology. This remarkable growth underscores the vital role PCs for People has assumed in empowering low-income families through access to affordable computers and internet services.
During Sorensen’s tenure, he successfully scaled the organization’s operations, contributing to its sustainable growth model, where each regional office is responsible for its startup costs. His focus on creating scalable processes and fostering partnerships with thousands of donors has fortified PCs for People’s foundation for the future. Sorensen expresses pride in the impact achieved across the country and emphasizes his confidence that the next CEO will build upon this legacy. As the organization prepares for this transition, it seeks to maintain its momentum and continue its critical mission of digital inclusion, especially as it looks to expand to 18 locations in the near future.
To ensure a seamless leadership transition, the board of directors has initiated a search for Sorensen's successor, engaging an executive search firm to identify candidates who possess strategic planning expertise and a strong commitment to the organization’s mission and culture. During this interim period, Jenny Lorton, the National Director of People, Culture & Board Affairs, will oversee daily operations. As the organization looks ahead, it aims to enhance its initiatives, including providing low-cost internet and digital skills training, essential resources for low-income families striving for better opportunities in a technology-driven world.
In addition to the leadership change, PCs for People continues to emphasize its commitment to digital equity by expanding its services and outreach efforts. The organization’s successful track record and ambitious plans for future growth position it as a crucial advocate for digital inclusion, especially as technology becomes increasingly integral to daily life. Moving forward, the new leadership will need to navigate the challenges and opportunities that arise in this rapidly evolving landscape, ensuring that the mission of providing affordable technology remains at the forefront of its agenda.
