Clean Energy Fuels Expands Renewable Natural Gas Infrastructure in California
Clean Energy Fuels Corp. (Nasdaq: CLNE) expands its footprint in the renewable natural gas (RNG) sector with the inauguration of an expanded RNG fueling station in Carson, California. Located at 23924 S. Figueroa Street, this facility is a collaborative effort with the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts, which own the station. The fueling station is designed to serve a variety of public vehicles, including local transit buses, waste haulers, and medium to heavy-duty trucks. With the growing emphasis on sustainable transportation solutions, this facility represents a significant step forward in providing low-carbon fuel alternatives to the region.
The RNG produced at this station comes from the processing of wastewater and organic waste at the A.K. Warren Water Resource Facility, which is part of the Districts’ commitment to turning waste into valuable resources. In addition to this locally sourced RNG, the facility also receives 100% RNG via utility pipelines. Clean Energy Fuels will manage the station's operations and maintenance over the next decade, ensuring that it meets the increasing demand for RNG, which is projected to equate to sales of one million gallons of gasoline annually. This initiative aligns with both Clean Energy's mission to decarbonize transportation and the Districts’ broader goals of enhancing air quality and reducing emissions.
Chad Lindholm, Senior Vice President of Sales at Clean Energy, underscores the critical role of expanding RNG fueling locations in achieving sustainability goals for fleets. The collaboration with the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts not only highlights the importance of utilizing renewable resources but also showcases the innovative approaches being taken to integrate clean fuels into everyday transportation. Mark Revilla, Head of the Districts’ Solid Waste Management Department, expresses pride in this partnership, noting their early commitment to biogas as a vehicle fuel. This project is bolstered by a grant from CalRecycle, contributing to the Districts' Food Waste Recycling Program, which is designed to protect the environment while generating beneficial products.
In broader industry context, Clean Energy Fuels stands as a leader in clean transportation solutions, particularly in the RNG sector. The company focuses on transforming organic waste into sustainable fuel, a critical component in the fight against climate change. With increased investment and infrastructure development in RNG, Clean Energy Fuels is poised to play a pivotal role in the transition to a more sustainable and low-carbon transportation network.
The opening of the Carson fueling station not only signifies Clean Energy Fuels' commitment to innovation and sustainability but also represents a growing trend in the industry towards integrating renewable energy sources into conventional fuel systems. As demand for clean fuel continues to rise, the establishment of such facilities will be vital for meeting the needs of both commercial and public transportation sectors.
