CNOOC Launches Groundbreaking Gas Field Project Offshore China

CNOOC Limited has officially commenced production at the Dongfang 1-1 Gas Field 13-3 Block Development Project, a landmark initiative in offshore natural gas exploitation in China. The project, which began production on July 29, 2025, is notable for being the first high-temperature, high-pressure, low-permeability natural gas development offshore China. Located in the Yinggehai Basin at an average water depth of approximately 67 meters, this venture showcases CNOOC's commitment to advancing its capabilities in challenging environments. With the development featuring a new unmanned wellhead platform, CNOOC aims to optimize resource extraction while minimizing operational risks.

The Dongfang 1-1 project plans to drill six development wells, with the company anticipating peak production to reach around 35 million cubic feet of natural gas per day by 2026. This substantial output will significantly contribute to meeting the growing energy demands in the Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Hainan regions. By integrating the production from the Dongfang 1-1 gas field with the existing Dongfang 13-2 gas field, CNOOC is not only enhancing its operational efficiency but also ensuring a stable and reliable supply of natural gas essential for the economic and social development of these areas.

CNOOC Limited holds a 100% interest in the Dongfang 1-1 project and serves as the operator, underscoring its strategic position in the offshore energy sector. The company emphasizes that the press release contains forward-looking statements regarding potential future developments and performance, highlighting the uncertainties related to actual outcomes that may diverge from forecasts due to various external factors. As CNOOC continues to push the boundaries of offshore gas production, the successful execution of this project may set a precedent for similar high-technology initiatives in the region.

In addition to the Dongfang 1-1 project, CNOOC continues to explore new opportunities in the natural gas sector, focusing on sustainable practices to minimize environmental impact. The company remains committed to leveraging advanced technology and innovative solutions to enhance its operational capabilities while contributing to the energy security of the country. As the demand for cleaner energy sources rises, CNOOC’s initiatives reinforce its role as a key player in meeting both national and regional energy needs.
