Cognizant expands strategic technology role with Wallenius Wilhelmsen
Cognizant Technology Solutions announces an expanded technology partnership with Wallenius Wilhelmsen to modernize the logistics company’s core applications and infrastructure. The deal moves Cognizant beyond a conventional services role into a strategic collaborator charged with simplifying digital operations, modernizing legacy portfolios and introducing practical AI-driven efficiencies across the roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) and finished-vehicle logistics network.
Modernizing a global RoRo network
Under the agreement, Cognizant is responsible for transforming Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s core application stack and underlying infrastructure to help the shipping and logistics group operate as a tighter integrated supply chain partner. The work focuses on replatforming legacy systems, consolidating application estates and strengthening cloud and infrastructure foundations to reduce technical debt and improve operational resilience.
The partnership also emphasizes targeted AI and automation to generate practical efficiencies rather than experimental pilots. Cognizant plans to embed AI-driven process improvements and streamline digital operations to improve precision in scheduling, cargo handling and inland distribution workflows. The company frames the initiative as moving from transactional services to strategic, outcome-oriented technology delivery.
Strategic collaboration and industry positioning
Cognizant executives describe the expanded role as evidence of a long-term collaboration that scales from project work to strategic transformation. Saket Gulati, senior vice president and head of Northern Europe at Cognizant, is framing the engagement as a durable relationship oriented toward measurable efficiency and modernization gains. Wallenius Wilhelmsen’s leadership says the partnership will enable the company to operate with greater precision and impact as it strengthens its integrated supply chain position.
Scale and rationale for modernization
Wallenius Wilhelmsen operates roughly 125 vessels across about 15 trade routes to six continents, supported by a global inland distribution network and around 70 processing centers. That operational scale makes robust, modernized core applications and resilient infrastructure critical to reducing delays, lowering costs and supporting global coordination across maritime and land-based logistics.
What this signals for the market
The deal reinforces Cognizant’s positioning as a systems integrator and technology partner for complex global operators seeking practical digital transformation. The engagement aligns with Cognizant’s stated purpose of modernizing technology, reimagining processes and transforming experiences, and highlights growing demand in the logistics sector for end-to-end digital modernization anchored in cloud, automation and AI.
