The study, named COSMOS (Continuous Ward Monitoring with the GE HealthCare Portrait Mobile Monitoring Solution), is detailed in the Journal of Clinical Anesthesia. It focuses on the advantages of continuous monitoring versus traditional intermittent vital signs assessments, aiming to enhance patient care and streamline clinical workflows in hospital settings.

Key results from the COSMOS study reveal that patients monitored with the Portrait Mobile system experience fewer than three alarms per day, showcasing a marked improvement over conventional monitoring methods. Impressively, 82% of these alarms are considered informative or useful by clinicians, underscoring the system's capability to provide meaningful data that aids in patient care. Moreover, the Portrait Mobile solution significantly prompts clinical interventions, notably increasing the initiation of oxygen therapy among patients by 60%. In contrast, only 49 patients in the continuous monitoring group required oxygen therapy, compared to just 33 in the intermittent monitoring group, highlighting the system’s effectiveness in identifying patient needs promptly.

The study, which involved 150 post-surgical patients, also demonstrates a 25% reduction in vital sign abnormalities among those under continuous observation with Portrait Mobile. Principal Investigator Dr. Daniel I.
