Hasbro taps Basic Fun! to introduce D&D to the next generation
BOCA RATON, Fla., Feb 10 — Hasbro’s Wizards of the Coast is expanding the reach of Dungeons & Dragons into younger demographics through a worldwide licensing deal with Basic Fun!, the companies announce. The agreement brings DUNGEONS & DRAGONS Questers™, a new collectible action-figure line aimed at Gen Alpha, to retail in July 2026. Basic Fun! is positioning the line as an entry point that translates D&D’s creatures and archetypes into a playful, discovery-led toy format.
Questers translates the roleplaying franchise into tactile, surprise-driven play that emphasizes storytelling and personalization. Basic Fun! describes the figures as collectible, discovery-driven and designed to spark imagination and creativity while remaining approachable for young children. The line intends to bridge generations by offering parents who are long-time fans a way to introduce the franchise to their children through hands-on play and parent-child co-play scenarios.
The product launch aligns with Wizards of the Coast’s broader strategy of expanding D&D across entertainment, publishing and digital platforms, using licensed toys to grow brand familiarity among future players. Basic Fun! senior vice president Dan Westcott says Questers “invites kids into the world of D&D in a way that feels approachable, creative and fun for today's young adventurers,” framing the toy line as both a merchandising and audience-development tool rather than a standalone product.
Global licensing and retail timing
The agreement is worldwide in scope and positions Questers as a collectible franchise for retail and gifting, supporting cross-platform storytelling tied to D&D’s expanding media presence. Basic Fun! announces the July 2026 retail debut as the first step in a broader merchandising push that leverages Wizards of the Coast’s IP expertise and Hasbro’s licensing strategy.
Strategic fit for fandom and the toy industry
For Hasbro and the toy sector, Questers represents a continuation of turning established gaming IP into physical play experiences that meet contemporary collectible and surprise-toy trends. The deal underscores how legacy franchises are adapting to capture new, younger audiences while offering fan parents tangible ways to pass on a franchise that is growing across multiple media.
