iHuman Focuses on Innovation Amidst Financial Setbacks
iHuman Inc., a key player in the Chinese tech-driven intellectual development sector, announces its unaudited financial results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year ending December 31, 2024. The company reveals a challenging financial landscape, with revenues for Q4 2024 reported at RMB232.7 million (US$31.9 million), down from RMB250.4 million in the previous year’s fourth quarter. This decrease in revenue is mirrored in the gross profit, which also declines to RMB156.4 million (US$21.4 million) from RMB178.2 million. Operating income sees a significant drop to RMB14.9 million (US$2.0 million) compared to RMB21.9 million a year prior, and net income for the quarter falls to RMB26.5 million (US$3.6 million), down from RMB33.3 million in Q4 2023.
Despite these financial declines, iHuman experiences a slight increase in its average monthly active users (MAUs), which grow to 25.78 million from 25.38 million year-over-year. This rise in user engagement may indicate a resilient demand for iHuman's products, despite the financial downturn. For the entire fiscal year 2024, revenues total RMB922.2 million (US$126.3 million), down from RMB1,018.1 million in 2023. Gross profit for the year stands at RMB640.2 million (US$87.7 million), also reflecting a decline from RMB721.3 million. Operating income drops to RMB71.9 million (US$9.9 million) from RMB159.9 million, and net income decreases to RMB98.6 million (US$13.5 million), compared to RMB180.9 million in 2023.
In light of these challenges, Dr. Peng Dai, CEO of iHuman, underscores the company’s unwavering commitment to innovation, particularly in the realm of artificial intelligence. He highlights the development of a proprietary large language model (LLM), which enhances product offerings such as the iHuman Smart Coder. This product personalizes the learning experience, catering to individual user needs and potentially positioning iHuman favorably in a competitive educational technology landscape. The focus on AI-driven innovations aims to not only enhance user engagement but also build a sustainable growth trajectory for iHuman amidst fluctuating financial performance.
In summary, while iHuman experiences notable declines in revenue and profits, the increase in user engagement and a strategic emphasis on technological innovation may provide a pathway for recovery. The development of advanced AI capabilities positions the company to adapt to evolving market demands and reinforce its role in the educational technology sector.
