LightPath shifts into scaled infrared production
LightPath Technologies is accelerating its move into cooled infrared camera systems and mission-critical optics, driven by recent order wins, acquisitions and manufacturing hires. The company is converting a pipeline of defense and public safety programs into near-term production plans, positioning itself as a supplier for allied militaries and domestic security customers.
Scaling cooled infrared camera production for defense
LightPath is ramping capacity to fulfil a $9.6 million purchase order for cooled infrared cameras from an existing defense customer, with deliveries expected throughout calendar 2026. The company is integrating camera and module sales from its earlier G5 Infrared LLC acquisition to support these programs, and says the combined product set is central to winning repeat defense business and multi-year supply agreements.
To expand optical manufacturing capability for large-diameter, mission-critical optics, LightPath acquires the assets of Amorphous Materials, Inc., gaining chalcogenide glass melting capabilities that complement existing infrared optics production. Management frames the asset purchase as enabling in-house control of material processing for advanced IR lenses and reducing reliance on external suppliers, which supports faster production cycles and higher margin opportunities for complex camera systems.
Leadership and shop-floor scale are also advancing: Israel Piergiovanni joins as vice president of manufacturing to oversee production expansion, while defense executive Mark Caylor is added to the board to advise on sector strategy and customer engagement. The company emphasizes investments in domestic and international capacity to meet sustained order momentum and to convert booked programs into revenue through 2026.
Other operational developments
LightPath reports a companion $4.8 million purchase order for advanced IR camera systems aimed at public safety customers, with deliveries scheduled in the company’s 2026 fiscal year. Management underscores that combined defense and public safety demand is driving the near-term production roadmap and justifying capital and staffing investments.
Financial snapshot
For the fiscal second quarter ended Dec. 31, 2025, LightPath posts revenue of $16.4 million, up from $7.4 million a year earlier, and gross profit of $6.0 million versus $1.9 million. Operating expenses rise to $14.6 million—partly reflecting a $7.6 million change in fair value of acquisition liabilities related to G5—while net loss widens to $9.4 million. Adjusted EBITDA improves to $0.6 million from a $1.3 million loss. The company bolsters liquidity after a $60.0 million public offering in December 2025, earmarked for working capital, strategic investments and acquisitions.
