In a significant development to enhance economic opportunities for individuals with incarceration histories, Jobs for the Future (JFF) announces the launch of its Fair Chance to Advance (FC2A) State Action Networks, which will allocate up to $2.1 million in funding to four states: Kansas, Maine, North Carolina, and Oregon. This initiative aims to address the systemic barriers faced by over 70 million Americans with criminal records, including discriminatory hiring practices and legal restrictions that hinder their access to high-quality postsecondary education and workforce pathways. The selected states were chosen for their commitment to improving economic opportunities and collaborative efforts across state agencies. North Carolina plans to expand educational and apprenticeship opportunities while enhancing data integration. Meanwhile, Maine aims to scale employer-connected pathways and improve data tracking to better serve individuals with records. Kansas is focused on formalizing collaboration among state leaders and refining reentry metrics, while Oregon intends to unify inter-agency data systems to facilitate smoother transitions from education to employment. These targeted strategies reflect a comprehensive approach to addressing the challenges faced by justice-impacted individuals, representing a positive shift towards a more inclusive workforce.

The FC2A initiative, initiated in 2024 with support from Ascendium Education Group, highlights the belief that investing in justice-impacted workers is key to driving economic growth at the state level.
