This strategic initiative is poised to integrate seamlessly into NorthWestern's regulated business framework, beginning in 2027. The initial energy service commitment will provide at least 50 megawatts, with the potential for expansion to over 250 megawatts by 2029. This expansion reflects the company’s proactive approach to meeting the growing energy demands of the technology sector while reinforcing its position as a critical economic partner in Montana.
Brian Bird, President and CEO of NorthWestern Energy, highlights the company’s robust resource acquisitions and diverse generation portfolio, which are essential for ensuring reliable power delivery. With an emphasis on a clean energy mix, NorthWestern Energy currently generates power predominantly from hydro, wind, and solar resources, making it one of the cleanest energy providers in the United States. This commitment to sustainability is further enhanced by the upcoming Yellowstone County Generating Station and the Colstrip Plant, which are set to provide additional capacity starting in January 2026.
