OneMain Holdings Reports Fourth Quarter Earnings Amidst Declining Income
OneMain Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: OMF), a key player in providing access to credit for nonprime consumers, releases its financial results for the fourth quarter of 2024. The company reports a pretax income of $164 million, down from $220 million in the same quarter last year. This decline continues a trend observed throughout the year, as OneMain's net income for the quarter also falls to $126 million, compared to $165 million in 2023. The diluted earnings per share (EPS) similarly decrease to $1.05, down from $1.38 year-over-year. For the entire fiscal year, OneMain's net income totals $509 million, resulting in an EPS of $4.24, a decrease from $641 million and an EPS of $5.32 the previous year.
Despite these challenges, OneMain's Consumer and Insurance Segment (C&I) demonstrates resilience, posting an adjusted pretax income of $185 million and an adjusted net income of $139 million in Q4 2024. However, these figures also reflect a decline from $223 million and $167 million in the same period of 2023. The adjusted diluted EPS for the C&I segment stands at $1.16, down from $1.39 in the prior year. For the full year, the C&I segment reports an adjusted net income of $587 million and an adjusted EPS of $4.89, compared to $655 million and $5.43 in 2023. OneMain's managed receivables have increased, reaching $24.7 billion, underscoring the company's robust portfolio despite the net income decline.
Chairman and CEO Doug Shulman expresses optimism regarding the company's future, indicating improvements in credit trends and a commitment to profitable growth. Shulman emphasizes the importance of shareholder value as OneMain navigates the challenges faced in 2024, looking ahead with a focus on strategic initiatives. The company also declares a quarterly dividend of $1.04 per share, scheduled for distribution on February 20, 2025, reinforcing its dedication to returning value to shareholders despite the recent downturn in earnings.
In addition to financial results, OneMain's share repurchase program signals confidence in its long-term prospects, with approximately 75,000 shares repurchased for $3 million during the fourth quarter. This move reflects a strategy aimed at enhancing shareholder returns amid fluctuating market conditions. As OneMain Holdings prepares for 2025, the company's focus on improving credit access for nonprime consumers remains a pivotal aspect of its operational strategy.
