Ouster Inc. Expands Lidar Technology for Urban Traffic Management

Ouster, Inc. (Nasdaq: OUST), a prominent provider of advanced lidar sensors, secures a significant $2 million contract to implement its innovative Ouster BlueCity traffic management solution in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The decision follows a successful pilot program at 12 intersections, prompting the city to expand this technology to over 120 intersections in its downtown area. This development marks a milestone as it becomes the largest deployment of lidar detection technology for traffic and pedestrian safety across the United States, showcasing Ouster’s commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure through cutting-edge technology.

The Ouster BlueCity system integrates digital lidar sensors and edge AI at each intersection, aiming to improve traffic flow, detect safety incidents, and facilitate vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications. This comprehensive solution not only automates data collection in the cloud but also creates a real-time 3D digital representation of traffic at intersections. This capability allows for precise monitoring of road events involving vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. The advanced features, powered by deep learning AI, enhance the system’s reliability in classifying and detecting various objects, addressing complex scenarios such as near-miss incidents and red light violations.
