PG&E Extends Financial Relief for Struggling Customers Through Match My Payment Program
Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) announces an extension of its Match My Payment Program through 2026, reinforcing its commitment to assist customers grappling with financial difficulties. Originally launched in June 2025 with a $50 million investment, the initiative aims to alleviate the burden of overdue energy bills by matching customer payments dollar-for-dollar, up to $1,000. This program significantly helps low-to-moderate-income households avoid service disconnections and manage their energy costs more effectively. To date, nearly $22 million has been disbursed to over 60,000 customers, showcasing PG&E's proactive approach to customer support during challenging economic times.
The Match My Payment Program is complemented by the Relief for Energy Assistance through Community Help (REACH) program, which provides additional bill credits of up to $300 for customers facing disconnection notices. This dual approach illustrates PG&E's comprehensive strategy to provide financial assistance to those in need. The three counties—Fresno, Kern, and San Joaquin—have received substantial support, with more than $9.4 million in total assistance, highlighting the program's impact in areas with significant low-income populations. Eligible customers can qualify for multiple matches by making payments of at least $50 on a past-due balance of $100 or more, ensuring that assistance is accessible to a broad range of households.
In addition to the Match My Payment Program and REACH, PG&E offers other support initiatives, such as the California Alternate Rates for Energy Program (CARE), which provides monthly discounts on gas and electricity for eligible customers. Vincent Davis, PG&E's Senior Vice President of Customer Experience, underscores the company's dedication to helping families navigate financial hardships. By extending these programs, PG&E not only addresses immediate needs but also fosters long-term stability for its customers, reinforcing the importance of community support in the energy sector.
In related news, PG&E continues to process applications for funding through the nonprofit Dollar Energy Fund on a first-come, first-served basis, ensuring that assistance reaches those who need it most promptly. The company's multifaceted approach to customer assistance reflects its commitment to social responsibility and community engagement, setting a standard in the utility industry for supporting vulnerable populations during economic fluctuations.
