Super Bowl grid readiness in Santa Clara

Pacific Gas and Electric Company is mobilising extensive preparations to ensure reliable energy services for Super Bowl LX at Levi's Stadium on Feb. 8, 2026. The utility is conducting venue‑specific inspections of electric and gas facilities, identifying at‑risk overhead and underground transformers, and confirming generation and transmission needs in coordination with local government, public safety agencies and the Super Bowl 60 Bay Area Host Committee. Preparations build on work that begins in September and are focused on minimising outage risk during the week of high demand and large public events.

To support on‑the‑ground operations, PG&E activates its Emergency Operations Center and local response centers in San Francisco and San Jose to provide around‑the‑clock coordination and field response. The company is working closely with Silicon Valley Power, the primary electric provider for Levi’s Stadium, to deliver necessary transmission services and to align contingency plans for load, generation and repair crews. Angie Gibson, PG&E’s vice president of emergency preparedness and response, says cross‑agency collaboration is “crucial for building resilience in the energy system” during high‑profile events.

PG&E is readying materials, fleet resources and staffing to manage the influx of national and international visitors and to limit service disruption for local communities. The company’s chief customer officer, Vincent Davis, stresses the importance of community cooperation and situational awareness, and says PG&E is committed to safety and reliability for both customers and visitors. The proactive posture — inspections, resource staging and interagency coordination — aims to keep essential services running smoothly throughout Super Bowl week.

Bay Area financial education scholarships

Separately, PG&E and the PG&E Corporation Foundation are awarding 25 high school seniors $7,000 each upon completion of the PG&E Community Financial Education Program at UC Berkeley on Feb. 7, 2026. Launched in 2022, the six‑month program delivers advanced personal finance, capital markets and wealth‑creation training to seniors from underserved communities, pairing Haas School professors and finance professionals with student mentors.

Over four years, 96 Oakland‑area seniors participate and the foundation funds roughly $800,000 in scholarships to date. PG&E says the initiative supports academic leadership and could serve as a template for broader high‑school financial curriculum adoption, aligning with California legislation that requires access to a personal finance course by 2027 and makes it a graduation requirement by 2031.
