Quaker Houghton Expands Its Portfolio with Strategic Acquisitions

Quaker Houghton, a leading player in the industrial process fluids sector, solidifies its market position through the recent acquisition of Dipsol Chemicals Co., Ltd., a major supplier of surface treatment and plating solutions. The acquisition, finalized on April 1, 2025, for 23 billion JPY (approximately $153 million), is a strategic move aimed at enhancing Quaker Houghton’s product offerings and technological capabilities. Dipsol, founded in 1953 and headquartered in Japan, has established itself as a significant player in the plating chemicals market, reporting revenues of around $82 million for the year ending December 31, 2024. The purchase price reflects a multiple of approximately 10.5x adjusted EBITDA of $15 million, indicating Quaker Houghton’s commitment to investing in high-growth potential businesses.

The acquisition of Dipsol aligns with Quaker Houghton’s strategy to diversify its portfolio and strengthen its technical service model. CEO Joseph Berquist emphasizes the importance of this acquisition in not only bolstering the company’s market position but also in providing advanced solutions to meet the evolving demands of its global customer base. With Dipsol’s robust presence in Japan and additional production and R&D facilities across Asia, North America, and Europe, Quaker Houghton is well-positioned to capitalize on the growing market for surface treatment solutions. This strategic integration is expected to foster opportunities for cross-selling and introduce innovative products to existing and new customers.

In addition to Dipsol, Quaker Houghton also announces the acquisition of Natech, Ltd., a U.K.-based manufacturer of surface treatment chemicals, for approximately 4 million GBP (about $5.2 million). Founded in 2002, Natech specializes in water-based cleaners, metal pre-treatment products, and paint strippers, further enhancing Quaker Houghton’s capabilities in industrial applications. Together, these acquisitions reflect a proactive approach to expanding their service offerings and addressing the diverse needs of the market.

Quaker Houghton’s strategic acquisitions underscore the company’s focus on growth and innovation within the industrial process fluids sector. By integrating Dipsol and Natech into its operations, Quaker Houghton not only broadens its product range but also strengthens its competitive edge in a rapidly evolving industry landscape.
