Ribbon Communications and AWS Join Forces for Next-Gen Voice Solutions
Ribbon Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: RBBN) announces a significant strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to develop a cloud-native secure voice communications solution that will be accessible via the AWS Marketplace. This collaboration set its sights on revitalizing and securing telecommunications networks worldwide, addressing the growing demand for modernized communication infrastructures. As outlined by Sam Bucci, COO of Ribbon, the evolution of telecommunications infrastructure through AWS allows for seamless integration with enhanced workflows, automation capabilities, and the incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI).
The newly formed solution features turnkey architecture designed with compatibility in mind, enabling users to migrate to cloud-based environments at their own pace. Key components include the Session Border Controller (SBC CNe), PSX policy and routing engine, and RAMP centralized management platform, all optimized for AWS Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS). This configuration streamlines lifecycle automation for telecom applications, significantly reducing both operational expenditures (OPEX) and capital costs (CAPEX) tied to traditional voice networks. By providing a flexible framework, Ribbon's solution empowers telecommunications providers to modernize their offerings without incurring extensive upfront investments.
AWS's Amir Rao emphasizes that the collaboration delivers a secure voice communications platform that not only facilitates scalability and cost-effectiveness but also maintains carrier-grade performance standards. This dual focus alleviates operational complexities that telecommunications providers and enterprises often face. The partnership incorporates joint development initiatives and enhanced customer engagement, with clients like Aircall already benefiting from the solution. Aircall's CTO, Jigar Desai, notes the advantages of Ribbon's SBC SWE on AWS, particularly the ability to scale capacity quickly and maintain high call quality, all while circumventing the limitations of private data centers. The solution is already operational within a Fortune 500 enterprise, underscoring its readiness to meet the challenges of a dynamic global market.
In addition to enhancing operational efficiency, this collaboration also aims to leverage industry-standard observability and monitoring tools, as well as built-in automation features, to improve global reach. As telecommunications move increasingly towards cloud-based models, Ribbon and AWS position themselves at the forefront of this transformation, addressing both the immediate needs of their customers and the evolving landscape of communication technologies.
Through this partnership, Ribbon Communications and AWS aim to set a new standard for secure, flexible, and efficient voice communication services, driving the future of telecommunications on a global scale.
