Singapore expansion cements RTX’s Asia Pacific aerospace hub
RTX signs multiple memoranda of understanding with the Singapore Economic Development Board that commit the company to invest more than $139 million to deepen its long‑term presence as a strategic Asia Pacific aerospace hub. The agreements, announced at the Singapore Airshow, position Collins Aerospace and Pratt & Whitney to introduce and expand high‑value manufacturing, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), and engineering capabilities in Singapore to support next‑generation commercial aircraft platforms and rising regional demand.
Collins Aerospace will add new MRO capabilities for electrical power systems and environmental and airframe control systems, including servicing Boeing 777X Integrated Drive Generators and flight‑critical products for the 787 such as controllers for engine starters, cabin air compressors and auxiliary power units, plus cooling systems covering pumps and controllers. Those capabilities are expected to be fully operational by 2030, supporting regional operators of widebody fleets and aftermarket demand for advanced electrical and environmental systems. Pratt & Whitney is expanding GTF engine MRO and engine‑related support in country, aligning engine services with Collins’ systems work to offer integrated support across airframe and propulsion systems.
RTX emphasises the strategic nature of the move as building on a 50‑year presence in Singapore: the company already employs more than 4,300 people across 12 facilities and is the nation’s largest foreign aerospace and defence employer. Company executives frame the investment as creating high‑value local jobs, supporting customers across the region and reinforcing Singapore’s leadership as a global aerospace hub, while EDB leadership says the expansion demonstrates confidence in Singapore’s stable aerospace ecosystem and will strengthen long‑term innovation and advanced manufacturing locally.
Pratt & Whitney Canada secures long‑term APU support for Scoot
Pratt & Whitney Canada signs a 15‑year maintenance agreement with Scoot to cover at least 24 APS5000 auxiliary power units on the low‑cost carrier’s Boeing 787 fleet. The all‑electric APS5000, described by Pratt & Whitney as the quietest, lowest‑emission APU in its class, produces 450 kVA at sea level and has flown nearly 16 million hours across more than 1,400 units; the contract aims to deliver predictable maintenance costs, improved dispatch reliability and reduced operational risk through OEM‑backed, data‑driven maintenance.
Connected aviation and fleet orders bolster regional services
Collins Aerospace begins delivering GlobalConnect managed services and the FOMAX flight operations and maintenance exchanger to Thai Airways’ growing A321neo fleet, enabling real‑time data, predictive maintenance and ACARS‑over‑IP connectivity across 32 aircraft. Separately, Pratt & Whitney and Vietjet deepen their long‑running partnership as Vietjet adds 44 GTF‑powered A320neo family aircraft and a 12‑year EngineWise maintenance pact, reflecting continued demand for fuel‑efficient engines and expanded MRO capacity across the Asia‑Pacific market.
