Scinai Immunotherapeutics Secures Funding to Enhance Local Biopharma Manufacturing Capabilities

Scinai Immunotherapeutics Ltd., a Jerusalem-based biopharmaceutical company, receives significant backing from the Israel Innovation Authority (IIA) in the form of a non-dilutive grant valued at approximately NIS 809,000 (around $246,000). This funding represents two-thirds of a total budget of NIS 1.23 million ($373,000) aimed at bolstering the small-batch fill and finish capabilities of Scinai Bioservices, a crucial resource for early-stage biotech firms both locally and internationally. The investment is particularly timely, as the need for agile, cost-effective manufacturing solutions becomes increasingly pressing amid a backdrop of growing competition and innovation in the biotech sector.

The grant will enable Scinai to invest in an advanced fill-and-finish system for sterile manufacturing, addressing a prominent gap in the biopharmaceutical landscape. Many early-stage biotech companies in Israel often face challenges in accessing local, flexible, small-scale Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facilities. This scarcity frequently compels them to outsource production overseas, leading to increased costs and extended lead times. By developing its own capabilities, Scinai aims to provide a streamlined, efficient solution that can facilitate rapid batch turnaround and flexibility in packaging formats, ultimately allowing biotech innovators to respond more swiftly to market demands.

With over 300 biotech companies operating in Israel, the need for contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) services is more critical than ever. Scinai’s strategic move to enhance its operational capacity not only positions it as a key player in the local ecosystem but also supports the broader goal of strengthening Israel's biopharma manufacturing infrastructure. Since launching its CDMO operations in 2023, Scinai has already made strides in delivering high-quality support tailored to the unique needs of various biotech firms, underscoring its commitment to personalized service and rapid project initiation.

In addition to the grant from the IIA, Scinai's ongoing efforts to develop its fill-and-finish capabilities reflect a broader trend toward enhancing local manufacturing solutions in the biopharmaceutical industry. By investing in state-of-the-art equipment and technology, Scinai aims to create a supportive environment for innovative drug development, enabling academic teams and startups to maximize their resources effectively.

As Scinai continues to expand its capabilities, the company reinforces its position as a critical partner for biotech innovators in Israel and abroad, providing comprehensive, end-to-end services that support drug development from initial clone selection through to GMP drug substance and product manufacturing.
