### TotalEnergies and Air Liquide Forge Renewable Hydrogen Production Partnership
TotalEnergies partners with Air Liquide to establish a renewable hydrogen production unit at the La Mède biorefinery in southeastern France. This initiative is part of TotalEnergies' broader 2030 strategy aimed at decarbonizing hydrogen use across its European refineries. The new production unit is designed to complement the existing Masshylia project, which focuses on generating green hydrogen through electrolysis in collaboration with ENGIE. This strategic move underscores TotalEnergies' commitment to reducing carbon emissions and transitioning towards more sustainable energy solutions. With the new facility expected to cut annual CO2 emissions by 130,000 tons, it represents a significant step in the company's efforts to align with European environmental goals.
The hydrogen production unit at La Mède is set to have an annual capacity of 25,000 tons, utilizing coproducts from the biorefinery to generate hydrogen for biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Vincent Stoquart, President of Refining & Chemicals at TotalEnergies, highlights that this project will drive the decarbonization of the La Mède platform and contribute to the low-carbon hydrogen production strategy in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region. The investment for this project totals €150 million, with production anticipated to commence in 2028. This venture not only enhances TotalEnergies' operational efficiency but also positions the company as a leader in the renewable energy sector.
Additionally, TotalEnergies and ENGIE are making strides on the Masshylia project, which will produce green hydrogen via water electrolysis with a capacity of 10,000 tons annually. The first 20 MW electrolyser is scheduled for activation by 2029, contingent on obtaining the necessary subsidies and authorizations. TotalEnergies' overarching goal is to reduce carbon emissions by approximately three million tons each year by 2030, integrating green and low-carbon hydrogen into its operations. As the company employs over 100,000 individuals, its commitment to delivering affordable, reliable, and clean energy remains a cornerstone of its operational strategy.
In summary, TotalEnergies' partnership with Air Liquide and the ongoing initiatives highlight the company's dedication to sustainability and environmental responsibility. By focusing on innovative hydrogen production methods, TotalEnergies not only advances its decarbonization objectives but also contributes to the broader transition towards a more sustainable energy landscape in Europe.
