Strategic Workforce Development: Sierra College and Bosch Forge Stronger Ties

Sierra College and Bosch demonstrate a significant commitment to workforce development with the recent completion of a customized Mechatronics program for Bosch associates. On February 13, 2025, ten Bosch employees receive certificates of achievement after finishing a year-long training initiative tailored to prepare them for the production of silicon carbide chips at Bosch's forthcoming facility in Roseville, set to open in 2026. This partnership highlights the critical role of educational institutions in equipping local talent with the necessary skills to thrive in advanced manufacturing environments. The Mechatronics program, typically spanning 18 to 24 months, is condensed into a one-year timeline through strategic scheduling, including summer sessions and optimized lab usage. Amy Schulz, Executive Dean for Workforce and Strategic Initiatives at Sierra College, underscores the importance of creating customized training solutions that align with the demands of local employers. Sara Lausmann, a Line Maintenance Manager at Bosch and an alumna of the Mechatronics program, emphasizes the significance of having a skilled workforce in achieving success at the new fabrication site. The strategic acquisition of an existing wafer fab in Roseville by Bosch in April 2023 has transformed the site, with a concerted effort to retain nearly all of the 250 existing associates. In addition to the Bosch partnership, Sierra College appoints Anabel Toche as the new Executive Dean of Student Equity and Completion, effective February 13, 2025.
