TL;DR
  • Standard Lithium's SWA Project achieves a record lithium concentration of 616 mg/L, exceeding previous estimates.
  • The successful Lester well results enhance project prospects and support the upcoming Definitive Feasibility Study by late Q3 2025.
  • Standard Lithium holds a 55% stake in the joint venture, committed to sustainable lithium production through Direct Lithium Extraction technologies.

Standard Lithium's SWA Project Achieves Breakthrough in Lithium Concentration

Standard Lithium Ltd.'s joint venture with Equinor, Smackover Lithium, reaches a significant milestone in its South West Arkansas (SWA) Project with the completion of the Lester well. This exploration well achieves a record lithium concentration of 616 mg/L in brine, surpassing previous estimates of around 500 mg/L and marking a pivotal moment in the project's development. The independent laboratory analyses reveal an average lithium concentration of 582 mg/L from three brine samples, indicating a substantial enhancement over existing resource levels. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as it caps off the Phase 1 exploration activities that commenced in the second quarter of 2025.

Dr. Andy Robinson, President and COO of Standard Lithium, expresses optimism regarding the results. He emphasizes the implications of the high lithium concentration for the project's future prospects, especially as demand for lithium continues to surge due to its critical role in battery technologies. With all fieldwork completed, the Smackover Lithium team is now directing its efforts toward finalizing the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) study. This study is essential for outlining the project's engineering requirements and operational feasibility, which will guide the subsequent Definitive Feasibility Study slated for completion by late Q3 2025.

The successful results from the Lester well not only affirm the geological potential of the SWA Project but also set the stage for future strategic initiatives. As the team prepares to enter negotiations for off-take agreements and project financing, a Final Investment Decision is anticipated by the end of 2025. Standard Lithium holds a 55% interest in the joint venture, while Equinor owns the remaining 45%. Both partners remain committed to advancing sustainable lithium production through Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technologies, leveraging the high-grade resources identified in this promising area.

In addition to the exploration milestones, the partnership between Standard Lithium and Equinor reflects a broader commitment to addressing the growing global demand for lithium. As electric vehicles and renewable energy technologies proliferate, the ability to efficiently extract lithium while minimizing environmental impacts becomes increasingly crucial. The advancements in the SWA Project position both companies to play a vital role in the transition towards more sustainable energy solutions.
